New Beginnings

Well..this is it! My 365th consecutive picture. This is the lead singer of Third Day. My youth group went to see them tonight, they and a bunch of other bands/artists played at a concert close to our church. So we went. It was fun! I took quite a few pictures.
So, you may be wondering, what will happen to me?! Will I dispear forever into cyberspace? Noope! Although I won't be posting on this blog anymore, I will most certainly have another blog! I'd like to leave this one at 365 posts..y'know, it's kinda special to me. So I'd love it if you'd move over to my new blog and follow me there! Details to tomorrow! My sister made this adorable gingerbread house for the fair. It came home with an honorable mention prize, pretty good for competing against all PA juniors! She made wonderful details I enjoyed photographing.

After some of the girls sent our youth pastor on a scavenger hunt for his tooth brush & other toiletries, he retaliated. He froze our hairbrushes in a solid chunk of ice. It was pretty fantastic, very well played.

I love the pond by the entrance of the camp. It's quite pretty, and I loved the birch trees hit with late-sun light in the reflection. Especially with an icy natural border!

Friday night after session my youth group participated in the dodge ball tournament. It went on until the next night, but we took fourth place!

This was given to my family as a gift from a friend in Africa a year or two ago. It's pretty neat. The train is made completely out of coca-cola cans, - I think!

Bird Feeder

Lately, I've been getting back to the basics. The simple little things in life that I set out to capture in the first place. With only a week to go, I'm not looking for extraordinary pictures. Just little glimpses of my life. I made this feeder at the birding seminar at our local feed store on Saturday. It was supposed to be for the kids, but I was one of two people under 30 there. Most were older folks, but it was fun anyways. I bought more bird seed, so hopefully I'll have bird picture soon!

Seems like even a thirty minute walk tires this old pooch out lately. He turned seven in December, and I can hardly believe we've had him for three years. Time flies when you're having fun! But this dog's different sleeping arrangements never cease to amuse me.

This is my Grandma's Christmas Cactus, except it doesn't actually bloom during the holiday season. It blooms around Thanksgiving and New Years. It's a little off, but they look lovely when they do bloom. Sorry for the late posts everyone, life has been crazy!

PA Farm Show

Today my Grandpa, sister & I headed out to our state's farm show (basically, Pennsylvania's equivalent of a state fair, only more awesome). These are pictures from throughout the day, a nursing calf, Pennsylvania's bee keepers association's demonstration, and a bow from a once-wild Mustang in the Equine Arena. It was a wonderful day, with photo contest winnings to come!

After dropping off our entries at the Farm show, I was able to stop at the Wildwood Nature Center for about an hour. The trails were incredibly icey, and there wasn't many birds out. This little guy (who I think is a Fox or Song Sparrow, I could be totally off) was one of the few I saw!

We got a lot of these little guys around my house, but not so many at my Grandma's (where this was taken). I like the greens in the background, I think it makes him stand out a little better. I miss having wild birds around, but I can't seem to get over to where I buy my seed.

My butterfly bush isn't quite so pretty now that the petals have fallen off. Not too many butterflies have been around either. I'm looking forward to once again seeing these fascinating insects hanging around my garden, but for now I'm got snow to shoot!

This morning I saw this lovely sunrise and rushed to get my camera. It was incredibly cold (about 13 degrees, with 30mph winds) so I didn't stay out long to get creative. But I snapped this, and I think it's pretty enough for today's picture.

It was a snowy wonderland outside today! I woke up to a few fresh inches (totally unexspected!) and our wonderful houseguest (who loves driving around on country roads) took me and my sister out for some pictures. The City of Brotherly Love

Philadelphia, otherwise known as 'The City of Brotherly Love.' Today, our houseguest (a missionary) needed to renew her passport, so we went with her into the city. We stopped over at Penn's Landing (first shot), during the winter there's an ice rink along the river. It's pretty cool! After we got her passport, we headed over to Geno's. Which has the best cheesesteaks in the world. I kid you not, they're amazing. Lastely, we stopped by the Philadelphia Art Museum and I went up the stairs (there's quite a few, not really bad at all though) to shoot the city from up there. It was a fun day!

Klazane sent me a link to an article on making your own bokeh a few weeks ago, and I finally decided it was about time to try it out! Christmas Day!

It's our tradition to make snowman pancakes on Christmas morning. Three pancakes (with chips for eyes & buttons) are the body, ice cream is the snow underneath him, bacon (or sausage, depends on your preference) are the arms, whipped cream is the hair, and some powdered sugar around him/her as snow! Merry Christmas!

This year my church did Advent candles for the month of December. Each week different families would light another candle, and give the meaning behind it. Tonight we lit the last one, signifying Christ's birth, the fulfillment of the prophecy.

Tonight my friend's Mother brought me along to their family gathering. All sixteen of them were in the same state, at the same table, and this was cause for a photographer! They celebrated one of the boys birthday, and I enjoyed taking some various shots through-out the night and doing group shots later on. It was a lot of fun!

Tonight my sister & I set up the lights on the tree while the rest of our family while they were out. This year we went with twisted white and red lights instead of our typically multi-colored. I like them a lot more!

Tree Cutting

Today we went to a local tree farm right up the road to pick our Christmas tree. Yes, we're live, go cut down the tree people! The first one is of the man working their cutting it down (my Dad didn't want to, and neither did I, haha), the second is of it loaded on our mini-van. We didn't actually put it up in the house yet, but pictures to come as soon as we do! - Oh and yes, there was still a bit of snow on the ground where we got the tree. Sadly none down in the valley where I am!

The city park system has an annual holiday lights display, and my Grandpa & little brother help run the indoor miniature train display. I took a few shots inside at the display before going outside, but sadly my tripod broke and fell (bringing my camera with it). - Thank goodness, only the filter was cracked! Poinsettia Show

Every year the greenhouse has a Poinsettia show, and we've never actually made it out. This year we did, and it was a lot of fun! The flowers were very pretty, and my little sister had fun picking one out for my Grandma and putting sparkles on it. We also got a blue one, and a pink one. - I'm sure they'll pop up in my pictures soon!

Homeward Bound

The trip home from North Carolina had to be one of the most gorgeous car rides I've ever taken. We drove up through the mountains in Virginia and they were covered in snow, it was spectacular! I'm typically against shooting out car windows, but I couldn't help it. Just too pretty. The roads however were great, which was a huge blessing for the end of an awesome trip!

Rubber Band Balls

This is our rubber band ball of awesomeness! With each shoebox, came 1-3 rubber bands holding it shut. It was my job to take the rubber bands off, and do whatever with them. I decided to make a rubber band ball! It's actually bigger now, and I used the colored rubber bands to make it pretty. I'll take a picture of it someday.

Today after working in the morning, we went to the Billy Graham Library/Museum. It was pretty awesome, if you're ever in Charlotte I highly suggest it. Afterwords we headed back to the warehouse for more shoebox processing!

This is the Operation Christmas Child warehouse from the second floor. It was media day, so they had a group singing, testimonies, and Franklin Graham got up and spoke as well. Chickfila gave out sandwhiches, and we ate some yummy chicken!

Apples to Apples

On the car ride down we had two 12-seat passenger vans for the 20+ people that came along. Ours had a table, and we played the card game Apples to Apples for good two or three hours! Made the time go much faster. This was taken at the hotel during another round of the game, I was getting slightly desperate for a picture around 11pm! (Pictures to come, it was a fantastic trip!)

Newspaper Feature!

Today my pictures were featured in the weekly teen section of the paper. It was pretty exciting, and they looked pretty awesome! Most of the pictures were ones I've posted through this very year! Thanks for the support everyone!

Today a trio of my friends and I decided to gather for some cookie baking and Christmas movie viewing! We cheated - premade store-bought dough. They were delicious though. We drank hot chocolate and watched the Polar Express. A fun afternoon all in all!

No, we haven't actually put our Christmas tree up yet. My younger sister puts up a little two or three foot fake one in her room and decorates it with Philadelphia Phillies things. All the lights are red or white, and the balls are silver and red. Typically she leaves it up for the entire baseball season, haha.

Today, we headed out to Harrisburg to the Wildwood Nature Center. They're having a photography contest and I decided to enter two pictures. My Gear

I saw two people post pictures of their 'blog' space and gear. Well, I don't do too much actual blogging, it's more about the pictures for me. So I thought I'd show you my equipment! It took me a while, I ended up using the bathroom mirror with our sink stool stacked up on our hamper. Then I set the 10-second timer and held a white towel behind everything. Worked out okay! There comes a point of time where you can't keep putting off giving the dog a bath. Tonight my Dad told me that Mac really reeked terribly. Plus the bathtub needed a scrub, which ends up being my job because after I wash the dog in there it needs a special cleaning. Now, this dog does not like bathtime by any means. The second he sees me calling him from the bathroom he runs, and I end up dragging him into the tub. Typically he'll stay once he's there, but he has had his escapes! I love him to pieces though. I sorta feel like a mom taking pictures of their kids in the bathtub, haha. Enjoy!

David Crowder Band

My sister has wanted to see David Crowder for quite some time, and he finally came up this way. I had a really fun time, they're music is really fantastic! Our homeschool group put on an Anicent History Day for the community. There were 'tours' through Rome, Greece, Egypt and a market. There was a Roman Gladiator fights, a Greek home (with a goat!), Egyptian 'mummy', and a variety of bread and other markety things. I ran around and took pictures, it was lots of fun. Trying out some new photo-collage type things. Hope you enjoy them!

..of Meatballs! I haven't been to the movies in such a long time. The last time I was at a theater I saw 'Valkyrie' (phenomenal film), last December! This movie has moved to the cheaper theaters, which is really the only time we see movies (four kids makes a dent!). It was lots of fun, a really cute movie. I loved the book growing up, go read it and see it! (tomorrows picture will be up Thursday)

I try not to post too many pictures of my dogs because sometimes it seems like they're well..to easy. They're adorable! At least I think so, haha. I had an idea to combine these three pictures of him yawning, and it came out cute so I decided to use it for today's picture! I love this dog!

We finally had a day with blue skies and no rain! It was a little windy out, the leaves were blowing everywhere. Most of them are down now, winter is just around the corner!

I took a lot of pictures today, just not many of not-people! My friend's family hosted a fall fling for the families of the church & youth group this afternoon and it was a blast. We had 'hayrides' on the fire truck, fresh-cut fries, and of course, - pumpkin carving! I'm not sure which of these actually one, but they're pretty cute.

After work today my Dad & I headed up to Hawk Mountain. Unfortunatly, it wasn't a great day for seeing birds (we saw a lot of Cedar Waxwings, a group of seven turkey vultues, [second picture, look hard] and a falcon) or for pictures. There was only about five birders, including myself, up at North Lookout. I talked a while with an older gentlemen, he was really sweet. Said it was nice to see someone so passionate for something (my photography). Something he said caught my ears, "Some of the most boring people I know are considering to be the 'coolest'." Think on that one for a while.

More dreary falls skies fill the air! Kinda yucky out, especially since most of the color has been wiped away by the rains we've had the last few days. Creeks are ready to burst, fields are flooded, I wish it would turn to snow!

New Lens!

I got a new lens today! I ordered it last Wednesday and it arrived today. I've had my camera for almost two years, so some new glass is really exciting. It's a Minolta fixed 50mm, 1.7. It's so fast, and the DOF is amazing! No lie! See how shallow the focus in the picture is? It's crazy awesome ! A little tricky, any slight move and you've got an eyebrow instead of an eye in focus. Expect a lot of pictures from it coming up! Also..re-did the signature at the bottom of my pictures, I'm still working on it though. Thoughts?

My family headed over to a family friend's for their annual pumpkin party! I did escape for a while to wonder around the farm and take pictures, there's endless picture possibilites there! I happen to love cows, I'm pretty sure I've said that quite a few times already. But here's a picture of one again on my blog. He's really just too cute though!

My friend's family & I went to a local farm today to pick pumpkins. We carved them, they came out super cute! I'll probably have a picture of mine with a candle in him at night later in the month.

Valley Forge

Today we headed out to Valley Forge Historical Park just outside of Philadelphia. - For those non-history geeks, it's where the Continental Army camped during the winter of 1777, from December '77 to June '78. The first picture is the Memorial Arch, the second was reenactment of the gun drilling (part of the various homeschooler activties!), the third were some gorgeous leaves (one of my favorite shots so far this fall!) and the fourth I took on the way home. My mother was gracious enough to stop by the creek so I could take some pictures. Fun fall days!
